Kenya
- Spring
This course will expose students to study formulation, data analysis, and field practices in wildlife ecology and conservation in a one-of-a-kind setting, the Ewaso Ng'iro Campsite at the Mpala Research Centre (MRC). It provides unique learning opportunities to students studying wildlife biology, ecology, and natural resources that are not currently available on campus. Students are exposed to a variety of topics provided by professors, graduate students, and local experts in wildlife ecology and conservation.
MRC occurs on the Laikipia Plateau of central Kenya. Laikipia is at once typical and unusual. On the one hand, it boasts the highest abundances of large mammals in East Africa outside the famous Serengeti ecosystem. On the other hand, it lacks formal (i.e., government) protection, which affords opportunities for field activities that would be impossible in national parks and reserves.
