My network has grown so much in the last 4 years, and now I have friends and colleagues from all over the world. The more you experience the smaller the world feels!

Why did you choose to participate in the study abroad program(s)? I chose to participate in study abroad programs to get the most out of my time at Iowa State. Being able to connect education to my passion for travel has been such a great opportunity. Experiencing different cultures and getting out of your comfort zone is the best gift you can give yourself!

In what ways Gracya in Antarctica did this experience contribute to your personal, professional, and/or academic growth? Personally, studying abroad and traveling internationally made me into the person I am today. I learned so much about myself and what was truly important to me. I also have been able to meet some of my best friends along the way! The professional and academic growth that comes from study abroad is endless. My network has grown so much in the last 4 years, and now I have friends and colleagues from all over the world. The more you experience the smaller the world feels! Gracya with children in Uganda

What was your most memorable experience abroad? My most memorable experience abroad was my first land sighting in Antarctica after crossing the Drake Passage. Hitting my 7th continent is something I never thought I'd do! Plus, no one could have prepared me for how quiet Antarctica is!

What advice do you have for students interested in studying abroad? The perfect time to leave will never come, you will always be nervous, and you should do it anyway!

Had you traveled internationally before your study abroad experience? Yes, I traveled internationally for the first time at 14 and never stopped!

Did you experience any challenges while studying abroad? Yes, I had a few health issues and common obstacles along the way, but nothing that I wasn't able to overcome!
