Study abroad trips are an excellent way to connect students’ knowledge from ISU’s campus to the real world.

Why do you choose to lead study abroad program(s)?

I think it is so valuable and vital to expose students to other cultures, cultural and economic systems, and agricultural practices across the globe. I love how well-prepared our students are about the sites they visit prior to arriving at their study abroad destination.

What is unique about your study abroad destination(s)? Why do you want to take students to this country?

Panama has a very fascinating history, from its diverse indigenous groups to the impact of U.S. imperialism. Panama is a relatively small country, both in size and agricultural output, but its climate allows for the production of many crops that some Americans take for granted (coffee, cacao, bananas to mention a few) and I think it’s important for students to see the production process firsthand.

Give an example of your favorite city, tour, tradition, or activity included within your program itinerary.

I’m most excited to visit the pineapple fields in Panama.

Why should students study abroad?

Study abroad experiences can cost a large amount of money, but I think the price is worth it as they feature unique experiences that are so difficult to replicate on an individual trip within this budget. Study abroad trips are an excellent way to connect students’ knowledge from ISU’s campus to the real world.
